Setup an OpenVPN network connection with these instructions.

Before You Start

Create an OpenVPN Network Connection

  • Click Resources then Networks.

  • Click Add.

  • Choose OpenVPN

  • Enter a name for the OpenVPN connection.

  • Enter the hostname: this is the IP address or hostname of your OpenVPN server.

  • Enter the OpenVPN port number. Default OpenVPN port is 1194.

  • Configure Transport, Network and LZO compression.

Option Description
TCP TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) confirms packets are sent/received which makes it slower but reliable.
UDP UDP (User Diagram Protocol) receives packets without confirmation, is faster but less reliable.
TAP Use TAP (Terminal Access Point) to create a network bridge. Use this for LAN and VPN clients on the same domain and so your LAN DHCP can provide DHCP addresses to your VPN client.
TUN Use TUN (network TUNnel) to simulate a network router. This is useful for IP addresses outside the domain
LZO Compression This setting enables or disables compression of the data sent over the VPN using the LZO portable lossless compression library.
  • Click Choose File to upload any certificate files.

  • Click Create Connection when finished.
