The FLOAT data type is a Floating Point numeric type datatype.

FLOAT [ ( precisionVal ) ]

Arguments

  • precisionVal: An integer between 1 and 53. Values between 1 and 23 define a type equivalent to REAL. Values 24 to 53 define a type equivalent to DOUBLE. Default is 53.

Value Range

  • -3.402E+38 to 3.402E+38

  • The largest allowed positive value is 1.175E-37.

  • The largest allowed negative value is -1.175E-37.

Additional Information

  • Follows the IEEE floating point notation.

  • A maximum of 30 total characters can be used to specify the value.
